Seneca's Catalyst Academy is a Nonpublic School located in El Sobrante, California. Catalyst’s primary partnership is with West Contra Costa Unified School District but the school also serve students from neighboring districts. Catalyst Academy strives to deliver top quality, highly integrated therapeutic and special education services to students struggling with significant mental health and behavioral issues. We aim to inspire our students with the joy of learning and to help them build the mindsets, skills and relationships necessary to succeed beyond our setting.
Catalyst’s mission is to promote the social, emotional, behavioral and intellectual development of each student. We believe everyone has the ability to learn and deserves a safe, engaging environment to do so. With high standards for academic scholarship, as well as an emphasis on integrity, respect, and safety, Catalyst Academy students are empowered to make positive changes in their lives and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways.
Our small school has three classrooms that serve a maximum of 36 students ranging in grades second through twelfth. This school environment allows us to personalize our treatment approach for each student in a way that embodies Seneca’s philosophy of unconditional care and is tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
Specialized Academic Instruction
Students are provided with 240 minutes of academic instruction daily, delivered by credentialed special educators. We offer a robust, individualized, blended-learning approach to academic instruction with leading edge technology and online curriculum for students. Common CORE standards are incorporated into daily instruction while teachers also focus on helping students meet the goals outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Every student is assigned a therapist and receives therapy at least once per week. By building an alliance with students and continuously seeking their feedback and opinions, our therapists can tailor sessions to students' individual needs and preferences while accessing well-researched therapeutic modalities that align with Seneca's Unconditional Care model.
We build active partnerships with our students' families and encourage all families to participate in regular family therapy, which can be offered on campus or at another location at the family's request. By working closely together, we can best support and nurture our students.
Group therapy provides a forum for our students to explore a variety of topics that affect their lives. Group offerings are determined by student needs and interests. We also incorporate the principles of Restorative Justice into our daily schedule with morning, mid-day, and afternoon circles; these principles acknowledge that relationships are central to building communities.
A variety of additional services may be provided including:
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Consultation with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst
