Virtual Fundraising Success!

Thanks to the generosity of our brand partners and bidders, our Change Happens Together spring Instagram auction raised $6,500, bringing the grand total of all three auctions to $14,500! These auctions are such a fun and unique way for us to not only raise much needed funds for our programs but also to give us the opportunity to connect with amazing local businesses and artists. Check out this list of our brand partners and find them on Instagram to learn more about their services and support! We look forward to staying in touch with this amazing group.

A Kinship Center Story: Helping Relative Caregivers Embrace Love in the Face of Adversity through Our Family Ties Program.

Maria, an agricultural worker in the Salinas Valley, has taken on the incredibly important responsibility of caring for her granddaughter in addition to her four biological daughters. The girls’ ages are 3, 12, 14, 15, and 16. Maria also lives with her sister and helps her take care of her seven-year-old son. Maria’s income is the only source of income for the entire household and finding a balance between work and caring for the children is difficult. Despite the challenges she faced, Maria did not hesitate to care for her granddaughter and raise her as her own when the need arose. “When my granddaughter came into my care I knew I was going to need help,” says Maria. Kinship Center has provided her family with food, beds, gas cards, and more. “The support the Family Ties program has given me has allowed me to keep my granddaughter with me, preventing her from entering the foster care system.”

Celebrating Kinship Center Donors: Betty Lou and Felix Colello

“Kinship Center has been our dream come true in building our family. From the first time we encountered their awesome team 35 years ago and began the process of adopting all three of our children from Kinship Center, we have had their endless support and encouragement. Our family is so blessed to be part of the Kinship Center family and seize every opportunity to support them. We have all enjoyed volunteering with them at many different events, bidding in their auctions, and attending their amazing potluck Christmas celebrations and gala fundraisers. Their guidance, training and support system throughout the entire process is invaluable. Community support is near and dear to our hearts and we appreciate every opportunity to support such a fabulous group.” -Betty Lou and Felix Colello, Kinship Center adoptive parents and donors

Kinship Center Provides Classes on Parenting Children Who Have Experienced Trauma and Loss

Pathways to Permanence 2: Parenting Children Who Have Experienced Trauma and Loss, is a 21-hour specialized series of classes designed by Kinship Center for foster, adoptive, and relative caregivers and guardians who are parenting children who have experienced hardships that many people never see in their lives. The course provides trauma-informed and attachment-based tools, techniques, and information that empower caregivers to effectively and compassionately parent their children.

Kinship Center offers this course at no charge to caregivers of youth who are dependents (or at risk of becoming dependents) of Monterey County. We’re launching our spring session, held entirely on Zoom, from April 27th to June 8th, 2021.

Kinship Center is excited to be a selected charity of the Coastal Roots Hospitality—an organization comprised of well-know local restaurants Montrio, Rio Grill, and Tarpy’s—Pick it Up, Pay it Forward campaign! During the months of March and April, 10% of all proceeds from take-out orders from any of these restaurants will go directly to Kinship Center! This is an excellent way to support our local restaurants while simultaneously supporting Kinship Center’s critical community services. Note, this only applies to orders that are picked up, so skip the delivery and make the trip to pick up some of the best food you can find on the Central Coast.
