The Olivera School program has a mission to “teach the possibilities” by improving the educational experiences of our students by providing instruction that tailors to their individual needs. Olivera serves students grades 6-12 in the heart of the north district in Concord, California. With a 6 year WASC accreditation, Olivera works towards its mission by actively implementing systems to mainstream students, giving them a voice through student government, and providing vocational opportunities to help students develop diverse skills that they may not receive elsewhere.
Specialized Academic Instruction
Students are provided with 240 minutes of academic instruction daily, delivered by credentialed special educators. High school students are able to earn 30 credits per semester and an additional 15 credits during summer school toward high school graduation. Olivera's academic program combines a rigorous emphasis on increased achievement with the supports needed for students to realize success.
Every student meets with his/her therapist once a week. By building an alliance with student and continuously seeking their feedback and opinions, our therapists can tailor sessions to students' individual needs and preferences while accessing well-researched therapeutic modalities that align with Seneca's Unconditional Care model.
We build active partnerships with our students' families and encourage all families to participate in weekly family therapy, which can be offered on campus or at another location at the family's request. By working closely together, we can best support and nurture our students.
Group therapy provides a forum for our students to explore a variety of topics that affect their lives. Group offerings are determined by student needs and interests, with routine processes for re-examining current programming.
A variety of additional services may be provided including:
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Consultation with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst
- Psychiatric Evaluation and Support
